Virtual Borders is an ongoing project with different stations. It started with station I in the Feste Dilsberg, an old castle-ruin from medieval times near Heidelberg. Internationally we invited artists via internet to participate. They were asked to send videos, animations and sounds connected to the theme of our concept. Station II was located in the Saarländische Galerie – Europäisches Kunstforum e.V. in Berlin. Previously our call for participation was focussed on defining and illustrating all types of borders that affect human existence. Whether metaphorical or literal, the concept is open to interpretation.
For the next stations we extend our call from reflection and monitoring to the invention of visions and utopias that overcome, deconstruct and dismantle all obstacles and borders. Our project is not only about political issues but it is about all forms of limitations and restrictions either political, biological, metaphysical, imaginative or visionary.
Through 2 former international internet- and exhibition projects, that we initiated in 2001 and 2007 we are working together with many artists from all over the world. This enables us to show a great variety of artistic positions and political statements.
One of our visions is to create so called audio-visual “satelites“ where we transport the contents of our project throughout urban and rural environments.
Therefor we want to create tours/courses of video projections through different public spaces – for example in a city, where we project groups of video statements outside and inside of context relevant buildings, like for exmple immigration offices, city walls, local tax offices, city halls… Suitable are public spaces and buildings that stand for a special political, historical, cultural, religious or social topic. We want to extend the art presentation and transform it into a rhythmic mobile communication experiment, where we try to initiate discussions with passer-by`s as well as a typical art audience.

Virtual Borders ist ein fortlaufendes Projekt mit verschiedenen Stationen an unterschiedlichen Orten. Die erste Station war die Feste Dilsberg, eine mittelalterliche Schlossruine in der Nähe von Heidelberg. Die zweite Station fand in der Saarländischen Galerie – Europäisches Kulturforum e.V. in Berlin statt. Es wurden per Aufruf im Internet Künstler und Künstlerinnen aus aller Welt eingeladen, sich an dem Projekt zu beteiligen. Die Teilnehmer wurden gebeten Videos, Animationen und Klänge zu schicken, die sich mit dem Thema Grenzen beschäftigen. Das Konzept ist offen für alle künstlerischen Interpretationen.
Für die nächsten Stationen laden wir international Künstler und Künstlerinnen ein ihre Utopien, Visionen und Strategien zu entwickeln, die einen Aufstand besonders gegen resistente innere Grenzen formulieren und diese uns in Form von Videos über das Internet zuzusenden. Hierbei geht es uns nicht nur um politische Aspekte, sondern um alle Formen der Begrenzung: politisch, biologisch, methaphysisch, imaginär/utopisch und visionär.
Durch 2 internationale Vorgängerprojekte 2001 und 2007 ist ein umfangreiches internationales künstlerisches Netzwerk entstanden auf das wir in unseren Aufrufen jederzeit zurückgreifen können. Das ermöglicht uns, ein weites Spektrum an internationalen Positionen aufzuzeigen.
Unsere Idee ist es sogenannte audiovisuelle “Sateliten” zu kreieren, die verschiedene Inhalte unseres Projektes durch urbane und ländliche Environments zu transportieren.
Wir planen einen Parcours von Videoprojektionen an Architekturen von spezifischen Gebäuden, wie z.B. an die Fassaden eines Einwohnermeldeamtes, einer Ausländerbehörde, eines Finanzamtes, an historischen und „zeitgenössischen“ Stadtmauern und ähnlichen Orten im öffentlichen Raum, die eine besondere politische, soziale oder kulturelle Funktion haben. Wir möchten Virtual Borders in ein rhythmisches mobiles Kommunikationsexperiment transformieren, mit dem wir Diskurse mit Publikum und Passanten initiieren.
